Macon Darrell Jones, born on October 23, 1973, was violently taken from this earth on June 13, 1998. Macon was a starting cornerback for the Hardaway Heat.
He had stop at a gas station on this fateful night to get some gas and something to drink before going to his mother's house. Unknown to Macon, there was a robbery going on in the gas station at the time. As Macon walked into the gas station to pay for his gas, he was met by a masked gunman who ordered him to stop where he was. Macon stopped and began to talk to the masked gunman. The gunman was distracted long enough for the gas station attendant to press the silent alarm button. After a few moments, sirens could be heard coming towards the gas station. The gunman shot the gas station attendant and Macon Jones as he was fleeing the gas station.
The gas station attendant survived after a long stay in the intensive care unit. Macon Jones died on the way to the hospital.
